Throwback Thursday: Kobe Bryant Hits Game Winner Against Bucks

With Kobe Bryant being ruled out for the season, Laker fans can’t wait long enough to see the five-time champion suit up again. Because of injuries to both his Achilles and knee, Kobe was only able to appear in six games before being forced out of action in early December.

Today, we take a look back at a moment that will remind Laker fans of the greatness that Kobe possesses. With the Lakers down by one with five seconds left in overtime, Kobe backed down the smaller defender, rose up at the elbow, and drilled a fadeaway shot over the outstretched arms of Bucks guard Charlie Bell to give the Lakers a 107-106 victory.

Kobe had missed a shot at the end of regulation to give the Lakers the win, but that did not deter his confidence. The Lakers fell behind 106-100 with only a minute to go in overtime before Kobe would go on to score seven straight points, including the go-ahead last second bucket. The Lakers would go on to win the championship that year, their second in a row, and this clutch performance only added to Bryant’s incredible legacy.

It’s moments like these that have Laker fans hoping the 16-time All-Star can come back strong. With this season all but over, all eyes will be on Kobe’s recovery this offseason in preparation for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
