VIDEO: Byron Scott Remembers ‘Everything’ About Magic Johnson’s HIV Diagnosis

23 years ago today, Lakers legend Magic Johnson shocked the world when he announced that he was diagnosed with HIV.

Byron Scott, current Lakers head coach and former teammate of Magic, says he remembers “everything” about that day, including all the tears shed in the Lakers locker room.

I thought it was a death sentence. 23 years later, he’s here and making millions and millions of dollars and being as only Earvin can be, that positive influence on everybody’s life.”

In our video above, Scott thinks back on that day, remembering the mandatory meeting Mike Dunleavy called while he was at Loyola Marymount high school with James Worthy. It’s a day he will never forget.
