VIDEO: Jeremy Lin On Kobe’s ‘Relax’ Comments, Bench Identity

Lakers guard Jeremy Lin provided ten points and a boost off the bench in his 21 minutes of action in the Lakers win over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night. When asked about the identity of the second unit, Lin said simply, it is to provide energy when Scott substitutes in the reserves.

Lin’s had an up and down year (with both Houston and Los Angeles) and as a result, has been criticized for his inconsistency. In a recent post on his website, Lin admitted his disappointment, saying “this season has gone in the opposite direction that I anticipated.” The L.A. native also vowed to work on changing his outlook in situations he feels he can’t quite control, opening up in his blog post about the challenges he’s faced this past year.

Also at times, it has felt like the barriers were insurmountable or that I was powerless to control things around me,” Jeremy Lin wrote in a New Years post on his website.

Additionally, in a post-game interview after a tough Lakers loss to the Memphis Grizzlies this past week, Kobe Bryant said that from his standpoint, Lin “just needs to relax.” Bryant said this advice is something he’s told Lin before, but Lin needs to learn it on his own, rather than be told what to do.

After the Lakers win over Indiana on Sunday, Lin was asked about Bryant’s comments.

I really think the last while I’ve been pretty relaxed. Smiling a lot more on the court, regardless of what’s really going on,” Lin told LakersNation.com. “I’m really learning to enjoy everything more. Even though things might not be changing or might not have changed, you can still change how you feel about stuff or your perspective.”

Lin also clarified that he didn’t want to get too relaxed, for worry that he’d lose some of his aggressiveness. For more on Lin’s comments about Bryant’s advice and his new outlook for 2015, check out our video above.
