VIDEO: Julius Randle Talks Shortcomings, Rookie Mistakes

After the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, head coach Byron Scott mentioned that Lakers rookie Julius Randle looked a bit “lost” at times on the floor. Of course, that’s to be expected for a 19-year old rookie in his second preseason game.

Kobe Bryant said after the game that Randle’s getting his feet wet and adjusting to the pace of the NBA game. Bryant also suggested that he’d like to see Randle start trusting his jump shot and start working on expanding his game early. Bryant made it clear after the Lakers loss that the preseason is a learning process rather than a measurement of where the Lakers currently stand as a team.

Randle was very open to discussing his shortcomings and understanding where he needs to focus on improving his game.

The biggest thing for me is trust and expanding [my] game. I have to get better on my communication on my pick and rolls,” Randle explained after the game. “I need to communicate with my guard because he is blindsided and I am his help. You have to go out there and help your teammates because it’s a team game.”
