VIDEO: Nick Young Converts Fifth Four-Point Play Against Magic

In his second game back from a knee injury, Nick Young scored 26 points in the Los Angeles Lakers win over the Orlando Magic. Young provided a much-needed spark off the Lakers bench, which he’s excelled in this season, and one of his highlights included a four-point play in the first quarter. It was the fifth such play on the season for Young, who is doing what he can to help avoid being the worst Lakers team in franchise history.

Despite missing 18 games, the Los Angeles native is averaging a career-high 16.8 points per game this season. Not renowned for his passing ability and though it is a low number, Young is also tied for his career-high average of 1.4 assists per game. When Young signed with the Lakers, it appeared as though he was set to become the team’s starting small forward or shooting guard with Metta World Peace getting amnestied and Kobe Bryant still recovering from an Achilles injury. As the season wore on, it became evident Young was most comfortable coming in off the bench. Young has appeared as a reserve in 42 of the 51 games he’s played in.

Young signed a two-year contract with the Lakers during the summer, but owns a player option for next season. General manager Mitch Kupchak expressed his belief the former USC Trojan would opt out in search of a more lucrative deal and Young later stated his days with the Lakers could be limited. Wherever Young may play next season, he has shown the ability to score in bunches and has the uncanny ability of completing four-point plays.
