Every season, the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrate the Los Angeles Lakers with ‘Lakers Night’ that involves an awesome giveaway for fans in attendance and some players coming in to throw out the first pitch.
This year is no different as the team’s biggest free agency addition, center Walker Kessler, was in attendance to throw out the first pitch. Kessler to feel the love that the Lakers get, even at Dodger Stadium, as he took the mound and delivered a strike.
Perhaps having one of the newest Lakers in the building might give the Dodgers a little boost. Despite being the back-to-back World Series Champions, and the favorites for a third straight championship coming into the season, the Dodgers have been struggling lately as the playoffs approach. Nonetheless, both the Dodgers and Lakers are franchises synonymous with winning and the belief remains they will turn it around.
The fans at the stadium were also treated to a nice prize as they all received old-school Lakers shooting shirts commemorating the 1988 and 2020 championship teams as those were the two seasons that both the Dodgers and Lakers won the championship.
It was certainly great for Kessler to have the opportunity to be on that field for the first time and get a taste of the support he will be receiving when he takes the court at Crypto.com Arena. And like the Dodgers, the pressure will be on the Lakers to be in that championship mix and he will play a big role in that.
Kessler undoubtedly will be one of the most important players on the team as the starting center and defensive anchor of the squad. The team gave up a lot of assets to acquire him in a sign-and-trade with the Utah Jazz after previously struggling to find their long-term center in the Luka Doncic era.
Mark Walter’s business partner Todd Boehly remaining limited partner in Lakers
Dodgers owner Mark Walter is selling his majority share of the Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. But Walter’s business partner Todd Boehly, who also owns a part of the Dodgers, is reportedly remaining a limited partner in the Lakers.
