Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is already established as one of the best players in the NBA having been named an All-Star and All-NBA First Team selection five times in his first seven seasons. Doncic’s talent has already drawn comparisons to the likes of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan because of how unguardable he has been.
Of course, Doncic already has plenty of brand deals with one of the biggest being with Jordan Brand. In fact, the Lakers star is currently on a tour with the Jordan Brand that took him to New York where he attended a Yankees game and was in awe of outfielder Aaron Judge.
Luka also spent some time in the commentary booth with Michael Kay and David Cone on the YES Network where he was asked about Jordan and whether he had met him. Doncic confirmed that he had and said that the man who many consider the greatest basketball player ever, is just a normal guy:
“Just a normal guy. I was so nervous when I first met him so I don’t even know what I said.”
Being nervous when meeting your idols is a normal feeling for many and Doncic is no exception. The Lakers superstar even mentioned the same feelings when meeting Kobe for the first time as both he and Jordan are two players the Slovenian guard grew up watching and emulating.
But as is often the case, despite being some of the biggest celebrities in the world, all of these NBA superstars are all human beings at the end of the day. They seem like such larger than life individuals but once conversations begin it becomes just like talking to friends that they grew up talking with every day.
Doncic has already been able to meet with most of the all-time greats, not to mention being teammates on the Lakers with LeBron James and one day there will be new young players who have that same level of nervousness when meeting him for the first time.
Luka Doncic emphasizing desire to win now with Lakers
Both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are known as two of the most fierce competitors this league has ever seen and Luka Doncic is built from that same cloth. And even though he understands the long-term approach the Lakers have in building around him, he also made it clear that he wants to compete for championships every year he is with the purple and gold.
