Former Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis spent more than five years with the organization and during that time, developed many great friendships and relationships that he maintains still to this day. Everyone saw how close he was with LeBron James, but Davis was also extremely close with guard Austin Reaves.
It may not have been seen much by the public, but Davis and Reaves developed a great friendship in their nearly four seasons together. And Davis admitted that it is Reaves who he misses more than anyone else from the Lakers.
“That’s my guy bro,” Davis said during the latest episode of ‘Foul Play’ in which he pranked Reaves. “Out of everybody on the team. I really miss him. That was, like, my guy.”
This is something that many wouldn’t expect to hear as it wasn’t really obvious how close Reaves and Davis were. But the fact that Davis made it a point to say that says a lot about the person Reaves is and the friendship the two continue to share.
The prank itself was a good one with Davis even admitting to using Reaves being a nice guy against him. Davis set up a fake charity giveaway in which the winner was to receive $250,000 and a car and made it so that Reaves ‘accidentally’ hit a buzzer making each of the final two contestants believe they had won.
They then demanded that Reaves give each of them the prize leading to Reaves looking very uneasy about the situation before Davis came out and revealed the ruse. The love the two have for each other could even be seen in the immediate aftermath as Reaves immediately went over to give Davis a big hug, not even caring about the prank.
When building a team the hope is always that there is some real chemistry and relationships that develop between the players and some are bound to be stronger than others. These days the friendship between Reaves and Luka Doncic is front and center, but before that it was Davis and Reaves sharing that close bond and the two clearly miss being teammates.
Austin Reaves’ contract could reach $40 million per year
Of course, Reaves’ primary focus this offseason will be on free agency as he is expected to decline his player option and become an unrestricted free agent. The Lakers’ guard has more than earned a massive pay raise and some believe his contract could reach the $40 million per year mark.
