The Los Angeles Lakers announced they have signed former Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes. While the teams of the deal were not disclosed, it is reported to be a four-year contract worth $60 million with a player option in the final season.

Grimes is a player the Lakers have been targeting for a while, and he now gets to reunite with his former Dallas Mavericks teammate Luka Doncic.

Grimes was originally selected 25th overall by the New York Knicks out of Houston in the 2021 NBA Draft. He has spent time in the Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks and Philadelphia 76ers organizations before joining the Lakers.

In 75 games (19 starts) for the 76ers last season, the 6’4″ guard averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 45% from the field and 33.4% from 3-point range on 5.1 attempts. He is a career 36.6% shooter from deep.

Grimes will wear No. 5 for the Purple and Gold, which was last worn by Deandre Ayton.

Quentin Grimes worked out with JJ Redick

Grimes told a story about how he contacted JJ Redick and worked out with the now-Lakers head coach.

“I literally DM’d him and I was like, ‘Yo, I want to get some work in with you this summer. Let me know anytime that’s available for you, I’ll make it work and I’ll come out there,'” Grimes said on an episode of “The Young Man and the Three.”

“And he hit me like right away and was like, ‘Yo, I’m so down to work with you.’ And we set up a time, he had me come out to, what’s the spot? The Hamptons, out there and he let me stay in his guest house with him.

“We worked out for two days and the work that he does is unreal just knowing that how good of a shooter he is. He knew right away some of the little things with my footwork, if I had an injury he was like, ‘Did you hurt your knee?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, how the hell you know that?’

“He could tell that I was coming down on a pin down and stuff like that. So, working out with him was just great and I worked out with him a couple times in Brooklyn before the season, before my third year. And he’s just like a wizard of the game and he just knows the ins and outs of it, how to come off certain screens. It was just amazing for sure.”
