Los Angeles Lakers ownership drama has been in the news for a couple weeks now, but in the meantime, Stan Kroenke quietly entered the picture in MLB and landed a deal with Arte Moreno to buy the L.A. Angels. It’s a massive sale, reported at an MLB record $4.5 billion, and one sure to have less drama than the Lakers sale.

Magic Johnson has given his thoughts on the Lakers sale from Mark Walter — and the Buss family — to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. And now, he has given his thoughts on the Angels sale as well:

I want to congratulate my good friend Stan Kroenke on becoming the new owner of MLB’s Los Angeles Angels! Stan has been a winner with his current teams – a Super Bowl Championship with the Rams, a Stanley Cup Championship with the Avalanche, and an NBA Championship with the…

— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) September 3, 2026

Johnson here shares the same reason for optimism that many Angels fans feel, which is that Kroenke wins championships in every sport and may have a chance to bring that culture to Anaheim. Johnson, who is a part of the L.A. Dodgers ownership group, knows that and is still happy to see his friend take over a rival franchise.

The sale of the Angels is expected to be completed in 2027 prior to the start of the MLB season, meaning there could very quickly be differences in how the franchise operates compared to the last decade-plus.

Johnson, who is very plugged in to the baseball world, will be watching every step of the way both as a friend and a competitor.

Danny Green discusses if ownership drama matters to Lakers players

All of these changes in ownership are, of course, big news stories to the fans. They want to know the direction of the franchise and who will be leading their favorite team to a new era. But there is always curiosity over whether or not that extends to the players actively on the team. Danny Green confirmed it recently.

“I think it matters,” Green said on an episode of Byron Scott’s Fast Break. “I think for a lot of guys now that aren’t in the organization as much don’t care as much as when they were playing. Of course it matters when you’re playing. I’m still around the team, I still work with the team with Spectrum SportsNet, so I’m there. So it definitely matters. You can feel a difference, even in the media and aura around the building, the organization. So yeah, it matters, but in the same breath, you just want things, whatever is going on, to be handled smoothly and you just hope for the best outcome.”

Ron's all time favorite Lakers moment was Bryant's final game when he dropped 60 points. While the Lakers beating the Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, as Metta World Peace hit the game clinching three, will always be a top option, Bryant's final night takes the cake.
