Free agent center Walker Kessler was the acquisition made by the Los Angeles Lakers that will get the most attention, but the team also added multiple other players who will play a big role on the team next season. Chief among them is guard Quentin Grimes, who agreed to a four-year, $60 million deal to join the Lakers.

Grimes spent the last couple seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers but will now join a Lakers team and it could very well be a dream come true as he posted some old pictures of his younger self decked out in purple and gold:

Grimes actually grew up in Houston, Texas, but it is well known that Lakers Nation stretches out around the country and the world. It looks like Grimes’ father was a fan of the purple and gold and made sure his son was as well. Grimes also comes from an athletic family as his half-brother, Tyler Myers, plays for the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

The Lakers are one of the premier franchises not just in America, but worldwide. The Lakers have one of the most recognizable brands in all of sports and a history of being home to the biggest stars the NBA has ever had. So Grimes and his family being fans, despite being based in Texas, really isn’t too much of a stretch.

Grimes will now have the opportunity to make a big impact for the Lakers. He provides an ideal third perimeter option alongside Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves who can play off of them as a shooter and slasher, but is also more than capable of creating his own shot for himself. After being acquired by the 76ers in the middle of the 2025 season, he averaged 15.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 103 games, thriving as both a starter and reserve.

Along with the other additions the team has made in free agency, Grimes will be looking to help take this Lakers team into championship contention for the 2026-27 season.

Lakers agree to two-year contract with Collin Sexton

Grimes isn’t the only guard the Lakers added in free agency as the team also agreed to a two-year deal with point guard Collin Sexton. The eight-year veteran is an explosive athlete and will provide some offensive firepower off the bench as he averaged 15.4 points per game last year for the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls.
