<< 1959-60 Minneapolis Lakers | 1961-62 Los Angeles Lakers >>

The 1960-61 NBA season saw a major change with the Minneapolis Lakers moving the franchise and becoming the Los Angeles Lakers. Led by a young Elgin Baylor and rookie Jerry West, the team was not yet ready to compete at the highest level.

The Lakers snuck into the playoffs at 36-43 and even won their first round series against the Detroit Pistons. However, they were no match for the Western Division leaders, the St. Louis Hawks. They lost in seven and the Hawks faced the Boston Celtics in the Finals.

There, the Bill Russell-led Celtics took care of the Hawks with relative ease to win their third consecutive championship, bringing their total to four.
