2011 NBA Lockout Timeline

The 149-day lockout was excruciating for those who have been craving basketball since the end of last season. Since the lockout isn’t officially over we felt it would be helpful to put together a timeline to help show just how long the lockout lasted and what fans can expect in the next few weeks as we begin to move towards the beginning of the 2011-12 NBA season.

May 8, 2011 – Lakers defeated by Dallas Mavericks; eliminated from post-season.

June 12, 2011 – Dallas Mavericks win NBA championship.

June 23, 2011 – NBA Draft takes place in Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

July 1, 2011 – NBA lockout officially begins at 12:01 am EST.

September 23, 2011 – League officials cancel NBA training camps and first week of pre-season games.

October 4, 2011 – League officials cancel remaining pre-season games.

October 10, 2011 – League officials cancel first two weeks of regular season.

October 28, 2011 – League officials cancel games through Nov. 30.

November 14, 2011 – NBPA dissolves labor union into a trade association.

November 15, 2011 – League officials cancel games through Dec. 15/Players file antitrust lawsuits against NBA in California and Minnesota.

November 26, 2011 – NBA owners and players reach tentative agreement to end lockout.

December 2, 2011 – Players expected to begin authorization of new CBA.

December 9, 2011 – Free agency period expected to begin; training camps open.

December 19, 2011 – Scheduled Lakers exhibition game vs. L.A. Clippers

December 25, 2011 – Projected opening day of 2011-12 NBA season.
