As the big names continue to pass over the Los Angeles Lakers for other options, the team has been forced to begin looking at more mid-tier options. Big men have been the focus, but the Lakers also have a huge hole at small forward.

— Have you seen the ‘Lakers Nation’ phone case? —

There are options to fill that as the Lakers are reportedly interested in former Houston Rockets forward, Corey Brewer according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard:

Brewer would make a lot of sense for the Lakers if they were able to bring him in. He is an excellent defender who was among the league leaders in steals last season before being traded to the Rockets. He is also a high energy guy who is constantly flying all over the court, and excels at getting out on the break.

With eight seasons under his belt, Brewer would also be a nice veteran voice to have in the locker room as Kobe Bryant remains the only player on the Lakers’ young roster right now who really qualifies as a veteran.

The Lakers came into the summer with around $24 million in salary cap space, but have yet to spend a single dime. The team will have to begin finding the right players to add to the roster next season, even if they aren’t big names. A veteran like Brewer would be an excellent role player to have around who can improve the team in a number of ways.
