It was a fun atmosphere at Staples Center on Wednesday night as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Houston Rockets 120-114 in their season opener, behind 25 points from Jordan Clarkson. Head coach Luke Walton says he was incredibly proud of how his team fought to win the game, despite lapses at the end of the fourth quarter.

The start of building a new identity and winning culture was the main takeaway after the game. Walton discussed the importance of playing for each other, while his players echoed that same sentiment in the locker room. D’Angelo Russell finished with 20 points and three assists and Julius Randle followed close behind with 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Rookie Brandon Ingram also had a strong debut, racking up nine points, including a three-pointer and a dunk, to go along with three rebounds. In the videos below, Ingram talks about how he felt after his first NBA game, and getting to go up against James Harden. Walton talks about how much he plans to use Ingram at the point guard positon and whether or not he wants him to be more aggressive.

Plus, Randle says the Lakers won’t be using rebuilding as any excuse this season and explains why this game is a step in the right direction of building a new identity.
