Lakers Injury News: Lonzo Ball Diagnosed With Knee Sprain, Considered Questionable Vs. Grizzlies
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers sent Lonzo Ball for an MRI on his left knee, which revealed a minor knee sprain, the team announced. Ball is listed as questionable for Monday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Ball’s injury comes shortly after the Lakers had gotten back to full health. The rookie point guard isn’t far removed from missing six games due to a left shoulder sprain. Los Angeles went 0-6 during that span.

Since losing a season-worst nine consecutive games, the Lakers have gone on a season-best four-game winning streak. It was extended Saturday with an overtime victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

The win snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Mavericks. It’s unclear when Ball sustained the injury, as he played 43 minutes and stuffed the box score to the tune of nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Ball was said to have felt knee soreness on Sunday, which prompted the MRI. If the Lakers don’t have this year’s No. 2 overall pick, they presumably will rely on some combination of Alex Caruso, Tyler Ennis and Gary Payton II.

Caruso was called up from South Bay, while Payton II reportedly will be signed to a two-way contract.

Of further concern for the Lakers, Brandon Ingram was unable to play after the second quarter against the Mavericks due to a sprained ankle. Ingram intended to test his balky ankle on Sunday and hoped to play on Monday.

X-rays on his ankle came back negative. Lakers head coach Luke Walton said during his postgame interview that Ingram was considered day-to-day.
