Luka Doncic has been as good as anyone could’ve hoped in his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is leading the NBA in scoring while helping to carry the Lakers to one of the best records in the Western Conference, all while endearing himself more and more to the fanbase every day.
This is being seen with the fan voting for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game as Doncic is leading all players in total votes after the second returns. While Luka has been an All-Star starter multiple times already in his career, he has never been the leading vote-getter, so this is something new to him.
And the Lakers superstar is extremely appreciative of the love and support he is getting, calling it amazing to be the leading vote-getter for the All-Star Game, via Spectrum SportsNet:
“Honestly it does, it’s the first time that’s happened to me. Honestly, it’s pretty amazing. A kid from Slovenia just only can dream about that, dream about being in the NBA, it’s pretty amazing. I really appreciate all the votes and I saw it yesterday or two days ago, it definitely hit me and it’s amazing.”
The power of the Lakers’ fanbase is on full display. A player as talented as Luka is pretty much guaranteed to be an All-Star starter when he’s performing like this, but being a part of the purple and gold just lifts things to another level and Luka is experiencing that firsthand.
As he noted, Doncic came from humble beginnings as a kid in Slovenia who could only dream of being in the NBA, let alone an All-Star and now the leading vote-getter for all players. Coincidentally it has normally been his Lakers teammate LeBron James, who has held down that top spot more often than not, but Luka is a beloved player who is more than deserving of being atop the All-Star voting list and there is no doubt he will put on a show when the All-Star Game takes place on February 15.
With the new All-Star format, Luka will be part of the international team where he will team up with the likes of Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for what could be a memorable night.
Lakers’ Luka Doncic excited for Trae Young after trade to Wizards
One player Doncic has faced off with at the All-Star Game many times is Trae Young and the two are forever linked after they were swapped for each other on draft night in 2018. Now with Young being traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Washington Wizards, Luka is excited for him in this next step of his career.
