The Los Angeles Lakers announced they have hired Ryan Kantor to become their new Vice President of Global Partnerships.
In the newly created role, Kantor will lead and oversee sponsorship revenue generation, sale strategy and new business opportunities both domestically and internationally.
“The Lakers are one of the most valuable brands in sports and entertainment with fans all around the world, and when we realize that value with global sponsorship revenue, everyone benefits,” Lakers President of Business Operations Lon Rosen said in a statement.
“Ryan has a proven track record in corporate partnerships and new business development with Southern California sports teams and venues. He brings a well-rounded and deep understanding of the West Coast sports and entertainment landscape and how Los Angeles brands translate worldwide. His results-driven leadership and innovative sales strategies will drive long-term growth for the Lakers.”
Kantor has extensive experience in the Los Angeles area as he most recently worked with the L.A. Clippers, the Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome. Prior to that, Kantor led new business development for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Anaheim Ducks.
Kantor is the latest executive with Dodgers ties to join a Lakers organization that is revamping its overall operations. For years, the Lakers have operated with a smaller staff but with Mark Walter officially the majority governor the franchise can afford to invest in new areas to drive even more revenue.
The Laker brand is one of the most popular in the world and with an international superstar like Luka Doncic on the roster it makes complete sense why Rosen is looking to grow their global presence. As the game of basketball continues to rise in popularity, now is the perfect time for the franchise to think about how to build the brand to reach both new and old audiences around the world.
Kantor has a lot of work ahead of him to evolve the Lakers’ reach, but there’s little doubt that things are changing for the better.
Lon Rosen plans to bring best practices from Dodgers to Lakers
Rosen was brought in to help elevate the Lakers’ business operations and so far he’s done well to build out a staff that can propel the organization forward. Rosen has the perfect model to reference as the Dodgers are arguably the best-run team in all of sports.
With the Dodgers as a guide point, Rosen plans to bring the best practices he learned there to the Lakers.
