Nike Teases New NBA Uniforms Coming This Season

Nike has been making the official NBA jerseys for every team since the 2017-18 season, taking over from Adidas. And they will continue in this role for another decade, recently agreeing to a contract extension that will keep them making NBA jerseys through 2037.

Uniforms are such a huge deal now with each team having multiple different versions with ‘home’ and ‘road’ hardly even a thing at this point. And now something new looks to be on the way for the 2026-27 season as Nike took to social media to tease some new uniforms:

The next chapter of the @NBA is for the obsessed.

— Nike Basketball (@nikebasketball) August 26, 2026

Exactly what the tagline “worn with obsession” means is unclear, as this was a very vague and short teaser that really revealed nothing. It could be a new style of jersey that is something similar for all teams or it could mean different things for each organization.

As it currently stands, each team has an Icon, Association, Statement and City edition uniform. The Icon jersey is the primary colored jersey so for the Los Angeles Lakers that is their gold jersey. The Association jersey is the team’s white colored jersey and that is the case for most teams across the NBA. The Statement jersey is meant to be a bold colored uniform which, for the Lakers, is their purple uniform. And lastly the City is one that honors the history, fans and culture of the team and for the Lakers has changed over the years.

This “Obsession” campaign could mean that a fifth jersey is coming or perhaps a certain style that affects all existing uniforms; it is anyone’s guess. But Nike is clearly looking to experiment and try out different things which is always welcome. Jerseys are a huge business now and with each team offering so many different options, fans can always find the one that suits them and now they will potentially have another option at their disposal.

Mark Walter’s TWG Global explains his decision to sell Lakers

The big story surrounding the Lakers right now continues to be the shocking news that Mark Walter has decided to sell his majority shares in the team to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner just one year after officially taking over the team.

Many believe that Walter is selling off assets as some of his companies are under federal investigation, but his main company, TWG Global, recently released a statement disputing that and explaining his decision to move on from the Lakers.
