New Lakers head coach Byron Scott made his way out to the 14th annual Harold and Carole Pump Foundation Gala over the weekend and caught up with Lakers Nation on the red carpet. Scott says he’s already talked with a lot of his players who are ready to prove those with low expectations wrong.
The three-time Laker champion said the first thing he thinks about when he wakes up in the morning (usually around 4am) is defense. Then, more defense.
“The one thing about me is that I never stop thinking basketball. I wake up at four in the morning, because basketball is on my mind.”
Regarding defense, Scott said he recently sent a text message to Kobe Bryant when he was working out with Nick Young and Wesley Johnson. The contents of that message were to warn Young and Johnson that they better be ready to play defense. When Scott saw Young on Thursday, Swaggy P made sure to tell his head coach that he got the message.
