NBA legend and Lakers champion Jerry West got stopped by TMZ on Wednesday, bombarded with questions about Kobe Bryant. West is asked to put himself in Bryant’s shoes. If he thought there was no chance to win another NBA title to finish his career, would he demand a trade, if he were Kobe? As part of his response, West admits that Bryant’s championship days are likely over. West also says he thinks it’s important for Bryant to finish off his career in Los Angeles.
Bryant’s been known to use comments just like this to fuel his drive to succeed. Kobe called Nick Young immediately after he was re-signed to tell him to make sure he gets in the gym.
Maybe West’s comments will simply add fuel to Kobe’s fire.
