The Los Angeles Lakers lost another heartbreaker Friday night when they fell to the Memphis Grizzlies at home, 109-106. Los Angeles played very well on the offensive end and they had one of their most well-balanced games this season. However, the Lakers could not make timely plays late in the fourth quarter and remain second to last in the Western Conference with a 10-23 record.

Los Angeles had their hands full throughout the night trying to contain Marc Gasol, who many believe is the best center in the NBA. Gasol is a threat on both ends of the court and is certainly an early season candidate for MVP with the way he and the Grizzlies have been playing.

After the game, Bryant spoke to the media and compared Marc to his former teammate Pau Gasol, via Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Both Pau and Marc are exceptional passers and their court vision makes them almost impossible to stop in the post. Although Pau is no longer the player he was once, the Spaniard has been one of the Chicago Bulls’ best players through 33 games.

As for Marc, the big men is following in his older brother’s footsteps and will likely make his All-Star starting debut in February. Pau helped lead the Lakers to two championship and at this rate, Marc may be on the verge of becoming an elite talent as well.

The Lakers traded for Pau back in 2008 in a deal that included his brother Marc along with other young players. At the time, many people were shocked at how little Los Angeles had to give up to get Pau, but fast-forward several years and it is clear that the Grizzlies got a great piece in return.
