Lakers Draft News: Semi Ojeleye, Johnathon Motley Among Friday Workouts
Brett Rojo-USA TODAY Sports

The recent focus on the Los Angeles Lakers draft has been on the top prospects. The team recently worked out Lonzo Ball and will get a look at Josh Jackson on Thursday as well as De’Aaron Fox next week. That doesn’t mean the workouts for other prospects has stopped, however.

The Lakers announced that they will be holding another workout on Friday featuring more prospects the team could consider with the 28th overall pick including SMU’s Semi Ojeleye and Baylor’s Johnathan Motley:

Of the six prospects, Ojeleye is the most highly ranked as Draft Express has him as the 28th best prospect in the draft. The SMU product is an excellent shooter and defender who should be able to play some small-ball power forward in the NBA.

Motley is the latest in a line of long, athletic big men from Baylor. He is a great rebounder and defender with a developing perimeter game, but must still work to improve his offensive game.

Sindarius Thornwell and P.J. Dozier were teammates at South Carolina. Thornwell was the SEC Player of the Year who has a strong NBA-body and improved as a shooter in his senior year. Dozier is an athletic combo guard who is inconsistent as a shooter but will be able to defend multiple positions.

Damyean Dotson has the potential to be a ‘3-and-D’ wing at the next level as an athletic player who shot over 44 percent from three-point range last year at Houston. Lastly, L.J. Rose is a solid floor general from BYU whose numbers didn’t quite do him justice.

The Lakers are doing their due diligence on every possible prospect as potential draft picks and possible summer league invites. Once the NBA Draft takes place on June 22, everyone will finally see who the newest Lakers will become.
