Lakers News: D’Angelo Russell Suffers Bone Bruise In Foot

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The last two seasons have been filled with injuries for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The team has continually been decimated as each of their important players including Kobe Bryant and Julius Randle went down for significant chunks of time.

Coming into this season the Lakers are hoping that won’t be the case, but prized rookie D’Angelo Russell has suffered a bone bruise in his foot according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell:

However, it sounds as if the injury isn’t serious as Russell isn’t concerned via Trudell:

This looks as if it is not serious and hopefully that turns out to be the case as the Lakers can ill afford to have any significant losses if they plan on having any semblance of a playoff run this season. The fact that it is Russell who suffered the first injury of camp, albeit minor, is sure to bring fans back to the tragedy of Julius Randle’s broken fibula on opening night.

The Lakers are beginning to look towards the future with Russell, Randle, and Jordan Clarkson leading the way. Randle lost out on precious development time last season and the Lakers have to hope the same won’t happen to Russell.

play it safe. give him the rest of the day off.

  • @disqus_Sj5LCbB41z:disqus exactly, give him the rest of the week off. i need everyone to be 100% at least at the start of pre season. good grief. can i get one season where the injuries are not piling up? PLEASE

  • Cue the. “It’s Byron Scott’s fault” hate rants… Twitter (home to the stupid people who want to feel important) already has a head start on the matter.

Be safe and monitor the SHIT out of that foot. But its just a bone bruise. Won’t kill him, he’ll be okay.

  • Just our f*ng luck man. We get the highest draft pick since magic and he is suffering injuries already. My God cant we catch a break. Last season we lost Randle and now this. I hope is something little and Byron takes him out of practices just for his own safety. Id rather have him healthy the whole season than him playing through canp just to appease the fans and show his toughness.

  • ‘The term bone bruise is a misnomer and makes the injury seem less serious than it is. A so-called bone bruise is actually a fracturing of the inner layer of bone.
Bones are composed of 2 different types of bony tissue, the compact (cortical) bone and the cancellous (spongy) bone. ”

The foot is one of the worse place for a bone bruise, he’ll probably miss Sunday’s game guys. I hope I am wrong because I really want to see if he can handle the defense at the point but as a precaution they should sit him out for Sunday.

  • Some people don’t get it.

Russell is the future face of the organization.

We should thank our blessings and support the kid.

Russell is in good hands with our organization. He will develop to be great.

I was an Okafor and Towns supporter but based on what I have seen from Russell, he is going to put it down for the Lakers.

We need to get past that draft antagonism and remain united for our Lakers team!

  • It is so rare that I completely agree with other peoples lineups, but I totally agree….

  • Randle will be a beast and the future face of the lakers, JC will be the 2nd guy ala westbrook at the same time scoring in crunch time, Dlo will be the leader and the glue guy

You give it to a professional driver and he’s going to win races.

Russell will grow strong with our organization.

If Russell was drafted by another organization I could be convinced that he could have a bust possibility, theres no way that happens here.

  • Well that’s honestly crazy. The lowest points allowed was Utah at 95 and San Antonio with Leonard gave up 97 a game (3rd best). Pretty impossible for any team to be around 90.

  • I like the way you think. But just know that Huertas, Nance Jr. and the two Brown’s are waiting in the wings to get theirs too. Plus the mid season trade deadline can be a time to add should we find an area of concern. And I’m and not sure those will be the actual lineups that Byron Scott runs with. I think a lot will be how well players are playing. And who brings it the most consistently at home and on the road as well.

Staying healthy is definitely a key.

    Go Lakers !

  • Lol. Randle not the face of the organization. He’s the 4th option on the team at best.

  • I say they rest him for 2 days because if it gets worse it can turn into a ACL injury to the knee. Remember when Byron said that one of the reasons why DRuss didn’t play well was because of a problem to his knee. So that’s a red flag for me.. He should get an MRI to be cautious and then rest if the results come back negative.

  • All players say it’s not serious for example Kobes shoulder injury. It’s been fractured since the early 2000’s and look 2015 towards the end of his careers it came back to hurt him. Players lie all the time but they are not doctors. It’s always good to be cautious.. Remember his career is not a sprint but a marathon.

  • We need to stop thinking who is the face of the franchise right now because we have 3 of them and that’s Dlo, JC, and Randle. Saying those remarks just causes drama and does not unite them but separates them. They are our future!

  • Agree, Embiid’s foot was found to have a fracture but he felt normal as well; you have to follow the doctors recommendation and take precaution and ignore what the player say because on many occasion they are wrong.

  • Calm down guys its just a bone bruise. Some ice & rest he will be fine. But it can also lead to a fracture. So just ice him for a week.

  • Right, last year I got my fingers all fucked up, bruises every 2 weeks. But I play more carefully than before, no more bruised fingers! Of course there’s a lot more pressure on the foot so I don’t know about that but I don’t think it’s serious.

Lakers have about a 20% chance of making the playoffs, better than most people think, but still a relative long shot.

I remember Gasol playing through tendonitis and then losing the rest of the season becausr it got worse. Kobe played through a shoulder injury until he missed the season. So youve got to be careful.

Confirmed he practiced yesterday evening I don’t think any NBA team in the league would let their number 2 pick practice with a fractured foot. I know it could get worse but go to the lakers team site he is interviewed and doesn’t seem concerned about it in anyway so if he’s good I’m good with it.

  • Do you think the Lakers just simply asked Russel what was wrong and called it good? How do you think they diagnosed the bone bruise in the first place? X-Rays and MRIs, I’m sure. The Lakers aren’t going to just toss him in if they don’t think he’s good to go with no further damage.
