Lakers News: Julius Randle Suffers Laceration To Right Hand

This off-season has been one of a lot of work for the Los Angeles Lakers, and particularly their young players. Julius Randle has spent a lot of time in the gym working on improving his all-around game and was also invited to take part on the USA Select Team.

Randle and the rest of his fellow young Lakers have been in the gym and weight room so much this summer that they have been dubbed ‘The Breakfast Club’ because of their tendency for early morning workouts. Unfortunately, one of those has now resulted in a minor injury.

The Lakers announced that Randle suffered a laceration on his right hand while practicing yesterday:

Lakers forward Julius Randle suffered a laceration to his right hand (webbing between middle and ring fingers) yesterday while practicing. He received seven stitches and will be re-evaluated in approximately 14 days.

The good news is that the injury is on Randle’s non-dominant hand, and it doesn’t seem to be too serious. Of course one of the main things that Randle needed to improve was his usage of his right hand, and this cut definitely hinders that development.

Things could have been much worse of course as this could have been a broken bone or torn ligament in his hand or finger. By comparison, a cut isn’t so bad. This also doesn’t prevent Randle from working out and staying in shape ahead of training camp.

For Randle, this is simply a minor setback in a summer full of development and improvement. It’s better for this to have happened now than in a few weeks once camp and preseason gets underway. Hopefully, Randle will be back on the floor soon and the work on improving his right hand will continue.
