Lakers News: L.A. Did ‘Everything They Could’ To Keep Ed Davis

Ed Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a rough go at the outset of free agency this summer. The team has already struck out on its top targets and now it has lost one of its best players from last season as Ed Davis agreed to a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.

While it seems that the Lakers focus on big names cost them Davis, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that the Lakers did everything they could to keep him:

This is a tough loss for the Lakers, but by all accounts the team tried to keep Davis, but the Blazers just moved too quickly and the Lakers were unable to keep him. There had long been mutual interest in Davis returning, but the Lakers were unable to make it happen.

The Lakers have yet to make any signings in free agency thus far and the chances of the team making any major improvements seem slim at this time. It is very likely that the Lakers will look towards trades, possibly for someone like David Lee as a temporary stopgap.

This free agency period is not going the way the Lakers hoped it would, but there are still moves that can salvage something. What those moves are, however, is anyone’s guess.
