Lakers News: Marcus Landry Expected to Join Lakers’ Summer League Team

120614_summer_league_400x300The 2013 offseason will be crucial for the current state and the future of the Los Angeles Lakers. While the organization and the fanbase awaits the decision of upcoming free agent Dwight Howard, the front office will be also busy with the NBA Draft, developing a roster for next season and putting together a Summer League roster.

According to the Los Angeles Times’ Eric Pincus, free agent forward Marcus Landry will be joining the Lakers’ Summer League team in Las Vegas, according to his agent, Keith Kreiter of Edge Sports.

If his Marcus’ name sounds familiar, that is because he is the brother of Golden State’s Carl Landry. Undrafted out of Wisconsin in 2009, Landry, 27, is a 6-foot 7-inch forward, who played in a total of 17 games under Mike D’Antoni in the 2009-10 season when D’Antoni was with the New York Knicks. Later in that season, he was traded to the Boston Celtics, where he only played for a total of three minutes.

However, Landry most likely came under the Lakers’ radar for his performance in the D-League. According to Pincus:

He was an NBA Development League All-Star this past season with the Reno Bighorns — where he won the three-point contest.

Through 35 games with the Bighorns, Landry averaged 16.5 points a game while shooting 42.8% from three-point range.

It is no secret that the Lakers are in need for shooters who are athletic. Therefore, it definitely won’t hurt for the Lakers to look at Landry, and the Summer League seems like an ideal setting to do just that.

The Lakers have yet to announce their official Summer League roster, but Eric Pincus added that a team spokesman said that, while nothing is official, the Lakers expect Landry to be a part of their squad. The Lakers’ NBA Summer League goes from July 12 to July 22 in Las Vegas.
