Lakers News: Pau Gasol Asks Brother Marc to Help Lakers, Beat Utah

NBA: Memphis Grizzlies at Los Angeles LakersThe Lakers are fighting for the playoffs tonight when they take on the Houston Rockets. After 81 games it comes down to 48 minutes of basketball for a chance to play (at least) four more games. If they win, they’re in. It’s that simple. But if they lose, there is a possibility they head home for the summer fresh off completing the most disappointing season in NBA history.

No pressure!

Pau Gasol isn’t ready to handle that disappointment. According to Eric Pincus of the L.A. Times, Gasol called up his brother Marc who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, and asked him to handle business tonight against the Utah Jazz – the team fighting with L.A. for the final playoff spot.

Has Lakers forward/center Pau Gasol called his brother, Memphis center Marc Gasol, to ask for a little help against the Jazz?

“I told him to please go out there and compete and try to win the game,” said Pau.

Did he get a positive response?

“He said, ‘We’ll see,’ because last night they played the starters 24 minutes. They probably play the same the next game,” said the Lakers’ forward/center.

If Marc’s Grizzlies beat the Jazz tonight the Lakers will be in the postseason no matter what happens in their game against the Rockets. But if Memphis loses and the Lakers lose, it’s vacation time for Pau and his teammates.

The Lakers will face the Rockets tonight at the Staples Center at 7:30, with the postseason (likely) on the line.
