Lakers News: Robert Sacre Says ‘Our Defense Just Needs To Get Better’

The Los Angeles Lakers lost their third consecutive game on Friday and in the process have now allowed their opponent to score at least 130 points in each of the last three games. Friday’s loss against the Denver Nuggets wasn’t as much of a non-contest as the game against the Los Angeles Clippers was, but the Lakers defense again failed to provide much resistance.

Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson had his way with the Lakers defense — to the tune of 30 points and 17 assists and Kenneth Faried added a game-high 32 points and 13 rebounds. Visibly frustrated with the recent stretch of games, Lakers backup center Robert Sacre said the Lakers defense needs to improve:

With Jordan Hill missing a second game due to knee soreness, Sacre again logged more minutes than what’s been the norm for him. In 18 minutes of action, Sacre attempted to give the Lakers the interior defensive presence they’ve so clearly lacked this season. In the loss, the 7’0″ center managed to pull down eight rebounds, had one blocked shot and added eight points.

It’s been difficult for Sacre to get consistent playing time, but should the Lakers continue to be porous on the defensive end, the normally active center should see an increase in his minutes. If the first four games in March are any indication, Sacre should be provided with the opportunity to make an impact on the defensive side of the floor.
