Lakers News: Thomas Bryant Recalled From South Bay As Road Trip Continues
Darrell Ann-Lakers Nation

The Los Angeles Lakers recalled rookie center Thomas Bryant from the South Bay Lakers of the G League on Tuesday. With Nigel Hayes’ 10-day contract expiring and the team electing not to bring him back, they had an open spot on their active roster, which Bryant is taking for the time being.

Though his minutes have been minimal on the main roster, Bryant has been extremely productive in the G League. In 22 games he is averaging 19.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks while shooting 58.7 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from 3-point range.

Bryant suddenly joining the Lakers’ rotation is unlikely, but he provides the team another body for the remainder of this road trip. Additionally it is always good for him to spend some time working with the veterans as well as the Lakers’ coaching staff.

One thing that Bryant always brings is a ton of energy whether he is on the court or the bench. He is always the first player up to high-five teammates during timeouts and celebrating huge plays and having that kind of positive energy around can be a good thing during these dog days of the regular season.

And with that, there is obviously a ton of potential in Bryant and any time he can spend developing with the main roster is a positive thing. Even though it’s a struggle for him to see regular playing time.

So far Bryant has appeared in just four games this season for a total of seven minutes, but he converted his first career field goal, a 3-pointer, in his most recent appearance in the Lakers’ win over the New York Knicks.
