The speculation surrounding Kevin Love’s future has begun to kick into high gear once again. Although the veteran power forward has repeatedly said he wants to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers long-term, that stance could change this summer with the ability to opt out of his current contract.

At this point in time, the biggest issue for Love seems to be whether he’s worth a max contract in Cleveland. With the Cavaliers currently firing on all cylinders, with or without Love playing major minutes, there’s a chance Cleveland won’t value him as much as other teams with a need at power forward.

Recently, Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning was interviewed by Adam Figan of SLAM, Love’s future became a topic of discussion. Mourning believes Love will ultimately land in Los Angeles:

SLAM: Where do you think Kevin Love is going to go? LA?

AM: I think he’s probably going to go to LA. I could see that.

The Los Angeles Lakers have constantly been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Love in free agency. Love has disputed reports of his interest in leaving Cleveland for Los Angeles, but the rumors and speculation continue to swirl.

With the Lakers desperately needing to right the ship after three straight disappointing seasons, adding Love in free agency would be a step in the right direction. The addition of Love along with potentially another big-name free agent and landing a promising prospect in the 2015 NBA draft could drastically change the team’s future.

Obviously, this is nothing but speculation, but it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Love may be having second thoughts about entering free agency this summer. If Love stays in Cleveland after opting in, the veteran forward would make $16.7 million next season.
