After the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Jeremy Lin and re-signed Nick Young and Jordan Hill on Friday, next year’s roster is beginning to take shape. With the team currently focused on the Pau Gasol sign-and-trade to the Chicago Bulls, they are also finalizing their coaching search according to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News:
I'm told Lakers finalizing coaching search is "on the near horizon". But Lakers going to finish up last few bits of free agency first

After the resignation of Mike D’Antoni, the Lakers interviewed numerous candidates. While there was expectations there would be a new head coach by the NBA Draft, it was reported the Lakers kept the position vacant as an opportunity for free agents like LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to suggest who they would want as the next coach.
With numerous of their candidates pursuing other positions, Byron Scott has been considered the frontrunner for months after two interviews with the front office. In addition, Kobe Bryant also stated that he would like to see his former teammate and mentor be his next coach at his basketball camp in Santa Barbara.
