Throughout the history of the National Basketball Association, two teams have asserted their dominance over the rest. The Los Angeles Lakers, with their 16 championships, have stood out as the premiere franchise in the Western conference, while the Boston Celtics run the East.

With that being said, many rivalries have brewed throughout the history of the NBA, depending on playoff matchups, hard fought contests and battles for bragging rights in a city or state. When the Los Angeles Clippers relocated to Los Angeles in 1984, it provided yet another rivalry for the Lakers over superiority in Los Angeles.

However, this so called rivalry may have been blown out of proportion, as the Clippers still have yet to hang a banner in the rafters. Derek Fisher, a five-time champion with the Lakers, took to Twitter to remind his fan base that the Lakers remain the overwhelming winner:

Although the Clippers former core of Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan led the franchise to recent success, the Lakers remained the premiere draw in the city of angels. Fisher’s game winner came over the outstretched hands of Jordan, clinching an 87-86 victory in a heated contest back in 2010.

In 212 total contests between these two teams, the Lakers own a 145-67 record with many of the Clippers wins coming in recent years as they have experienced their best success while the Lakers have struggled. Fisher himself owns a career 41-9 record against the Clippers during his time with the 16-time champions.

Fisher spent 13 seasons with the organization, with 913 total games played. During his tenure with the team, he averaged 7.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists, while shooting 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. Although many remember Fisher for his countless clutch shots, Fisher was also a leader and showed grit and determination every time he suited up for the organization.
