Every team in the NBA has multiple different uniforms aside from the standard home and away jerseys, which are now referred to as the Association and Icon editions. But it is the City edition uniforms that fans look forward to the most as they are the most unique of all and for the 2026-27 season, the Los Angeles Lakers are sticking with a familiar look.
Initially debuting in the 2023-24 season and then coming back again last year, the Lakers will once again be rocking their “City of Dreams” City Edition uniforms this season, per NBA Uniform Tracker:

There is just something about the black Lakers uniforms that really make them stand out and these are no different. These uniforms, in particular, are meant to tell a story about where the Lakers came from and what they have become.
The black uniform signifies when they first arrived to Los Angeles from Minneapolis and not knowing who they were going to be. The triangle woodmark on the front of the jersey is a throwback to that time in the 1960s as the Lakers repped that style when led by Hall of Famers Jerry West and Elgin Baylor.
The numbers are the style that first debuted in 1999 when the Lakers were led by arguably the greatest duo of all-time in Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. The belt buckle of the shorts has the old “LAL” logo, which also is an acronym for “Leave A Legacy.” The Lakers chose this partial logo to put on the shorts in order to learn to embrace addition in change, not departure.
That is even more fitting considering all of the change surrounding the Lakers franchise from the very top with ownership down to a completely overturned roster that is built around superstar Luka Doncic and his backcourt partner Austin Reaves. This is a franchise that is entering a new era and these uniforms are all about evolution, something the Lakers are going through in a big way right now.
Nike teases new NBA uniforms coming this season
The Lakers’ City Edition uniforms join their standard gold, purple and white uniforms for this upcoming season, but there could be some other alternate jerseys as well. Nike, who makes all NBA uniforms, recently teased some potential new jerseys for this year with the tagline “Worn with Obsession” being prominent in the teaser.
