Larry Nance Jr. Posterizes Festus Ezeli With Massive Dunk (VIDEO)

Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers have been able to get a good look at all of the team’s young players this season, and one who is beginning to stand out is first-round pick Larry Nance Jr.

Nance is an outstanding athlete and he showed that off in the team’s preseason game against the Golden State Warriors. Nance caught the ball on the wing and drove right by James Michael McAdoo before rising up and slamming home a monstrous dunk over center Festus Ezili.

The dunk itself got a massive reaction from the crowd, as well as on social media with all of the Lakers fans watching reacting tremendously. For his part, Nance just jogged back down the court and gave a little bit of a shrug.

Since he is the second of the first round picks by the Lakers, Nance hasn’t gotten quite as much attention, but with highlights like these, it won’t be long before he is on everyone’s radar.

Good Lawddd Larry

  • Now of course the only impressed with the “now” crowd will probably say the Lakers look like they will win the NBA championship.

No, the truth is they will have a lot of ups and downs and have a long way to go before we can call them a good team. They will first and foremost need to stay healthy.

But we saw a lot of good things tonight. We will get better once the team is finalized . They will at that time start practicing and playing more as a team.

Huertas looked good, Clarkson was steady as were starting to expect from him. Jabari Brown did his thang, Upshaw held his ground, Nance Jr with the dunk of the preseason as he posterized the biggest Warrior. I tuned in at the end of the 2nd quarter. So I didn’t see Russell or Hibbert play tonight but it sounds like they and others played well.

Yes we have a long way to go and must be patient. But this is the best looking group to start the season since 2010 IMO.

    Go Lakers !

  • Agreed. But Russell, randle (he owned green tonight) and Hib played solid and kept the game close. But the second team and 3rd withJbrown, Nancy, and Upshaw really torched GSW with Curry playing. I know we can’t jump on conclusion but this game was a showtime esque. Defense, offense, and iso were all balanced.

  • I saw nothing but positive play tonight, they played together no ball hogging, and the were happy playing together, STARTERS 31 pts 1 st qtr, with the bench with not starters scored 31 pts in the 2 nd qtr. 62 pts at HALF, GOOD GAME.

  • It was a very positive game.
    – Russel playing defense and making a behind the back lay-up
    – Randle just owning Green, saying ” You can’t guard me “. (You can’t handle the Randle)
    – Larry Nance , Nasty-licious dunk , 3 point shot
    – Ryan Kelley had flow to his game, 4 blocks !?
    – Clarkson, scoring, loved how he looked for contact and made the lay-ups, was not afraid to go up against Curry.
    – Huertas was a passing savant, he make some great passes and even made Sacre look good.

  • Huertas’ court vision is ridiculous but he also has the handles and arm strength to fire off passes across the court effortlessly. Six assists and all of them were on point.

Overall, I loved that the Lakers constantly attacked the basket. They took three’s and long two’s where applicable and within the flow of the offense but for the most part, attacked all night long while also putting it to GS on D. I’ll take that any day. Just wish they could’ve finished the game.

Oh, and Randle? Keep that swag coming.

But until then, I shall give, express my legal right of expressing my opinion and TRUTH of who will start and be productive for Laker wins, bruh. • Your English is also abhorrent, almost like you may be a butt hurt Jeremy Lin fan, pretending to be a Lakers fan. Did you not see when he stripped the ball off Ian Clark, went coast to coast, behind the back and finished? Did you block that out, or the fact he played only 12 minutes against Curry, Barbosa, Iguodala, D Green, Ezeli, all current NBA Champions and held his own at 31-31 in the first quarter. Guess that counted for nothing, oh yea, Huertas is also an NBA rookie in case you didn’t know.

You originally stated that DLo was 3-5 years away, but now you are saying 4-7 years away. Seriously, get a grip on your blatant unfounded hatred for him.

  • Should D’Lo get to play again, in the next 2 preseason games and put up CLOWN layup shots, I may be leaning to 5-9 years away from making NBA – THIS IS NOT GLOBETROTTER try-outs. However, I will give Mr D’Angelo the Good Samaritan / Humanitarian award – the Good Citizen Award for being an OUTSTANDING God Creature !!! yay. But no award for making the NBA award, BASED ON WHAT I SEEN, thus far – Granted We have 2 more preseason NBA games, and believe me NO ONE wants to make Mitch Look like a fool for wasting our pick, especially not me – So I will be cheering loudest for the success that U c in Mr D’Angelo, if just for one play !!!! Beat Portland, LA by five

  • D’Angelo has only played 75 minutes, is shooting 8-24 (33%), 14 rebounds, 19 assists, 5 turnovers, 25 points. That is not a bad return at all for a 19 year old rookie, granted the shooting percentage is low, but this is to be expected of the majority of NBA rookies. If you average out his numbers to per 36 minutes Russell is already showing good numbers especially for a play making point guard:

    36 minutes, 12 points, 9.1 assists, 6.7 rebounds.
Nothing wrong with that at all, and considering he has only turned the ball over 5 times in 75 minutes, compared to his summer league turnover ratio, he has already shown improvement. If you weren’t blinded by your absolute rampant hatred for him, you’d see this.

  • I agree with you, but I was optimistic before tonight’s game. Many blow wins and loses out of proportion. Most of the players on this team have still yet to win a significant regular season game or made it into the playoffs. So we have a long way to go to be considered a good team. The key is consistency for a period of time. And that can only happen when we are able to maintain a healthy team. The team must keep improving and take it one game at a time.

  • Yes, I was impressed but not too surprised with what I saw. I see this as the best group to start the season the Lakers have had since the start of 2010 season. But they will need to stay healthy and keep improving. They also have to be able to play well in a regular season game night after night which is much harder than winning a preseason game is.

They will need to take it one game at a time and not get too caught up into the media comments about them when they have a off night.

Lots of positives to take from tonight. You know how it goes you win and all of a sudden your a great player or a great coach. But when you lose it’s the coach or the best player on the team’s fault.

They have to all take personal accountability with each performance. From the head coach to the water boy everyone must step up by playing their part not pointing fingers at someone else.

And ever tougher to sustain a high level of play at home and on the road night after night. We can’t say many of our players have won many significant regular season games night after night.

They have to take it one game at a time and keep improving on both sides of the court. And stay healthy. And fans must support the players when they play well and have off games because they will continue to do both each and every one of them.

There will be highs and lows. We just can’t get too high on the highs or too low on the lows. And we must save the finger pointing for the Laker hating portion of the media. Because there is more than enough of them trying to divide and pull the Lakers down IMO.

Kelly is on the line IMO. I worry about Kelly staying healthy enough. I think others probably should be cut?

I would also possibly look to trade for a good veteran SF by the mid season trade deadline, and move Kobe back to shooting guard, should the team be able to play well and stay healthy enough to make the playoffs.

  • But I would see how well Russell is playing before just automatically making that decision. But Huertas is a veteran player and I always prefer proven talent over high potential because team success should come before player development IMO. I would find a nice balance to get the young players ready and confident but not at the team’s expense. So they must be able to help the team succeed or pass towels. Hurts has to be able to prove he can play well against top NBA players in meaningful games at home and on the road too. No one has a lock on the point guard spot yet IMO.

Team success is what I want more than anything else. Either step up and produce or move over so someone else can. And support that someone else by keeping a good attitude and be ready when called upon. The Warriors demonstrated that by having just about everyone on the roster ready, willing, and able to step up at any given time when needed or called.

  • You are seeing weird guys play because Scott has to cut the team down to 15 very soon. Who is on the bubble? Scott also has to figure out who starts and who rides the pine. Russell has had a chance, now I think Huertas takes over and Russell rides the pine. Kelly keeps earning his pay. How do we cut him? Holmes and Sacre are gone. What about Frazier? He’s a shooter. Can we keep him?

  • It’s funny how Hibbert walks to the locker room with his hands up after the dunk

  • nance jr is nothing special on offense, you wont see him do this in the regular season, he does have good defense tho

  • I don’t know about long way to go. Only because of the mix of vet and youngsters on the team. We have enough vets on the squad who know what they’re doing to put us over for enough wins most nights. This gives us a lot of leeway to develop the youngsters while still trying to win as many games as possible.

I think if we didn’t have so much talent both in the starting lineup and off the bench, I’d be more cautious in my expectation levels for success but this squad just screams to me “surprise wild card team.”

For four straight seasons, no Laker team has been built and/or looked like this. Athletic, hungry, talented and receptive to getting better (save for Sacre…there’s no helping that guy).

I was telling my wife the other day “You know how every season I say we’re going to do good this year even tho’ the team isn’t very good? Well, this year we are going to be good but I really mean it.” lol.

  • I feel exactly the way you feel about the team’s chances. However I put the long way in there because of the masterful job of great player and Laker hating many in the media have done to make a tough challenge more difficult. You and I know if the Lakers come out and struggle in the first 4 or 5 games the media will continue to write them off. And even if they go 22-2 the first 24 games they will say it’s only because it’s early in the season. They won’t be able to maintain the high level of play long enough to make it in the playoffs. Etc…

That is why guys like Fisher, and MWP are so important to a team. They know how to rally the players together and shore up the locker room. They become extensions of the coaching staff to keep the players united and focused.

I have high expectations but we must be prepared for the ups and downs any team with so many new players and a new coach would go through. Hopefully they stay healthy. And take it one game at a time.

    Go Lakers !

  • I wouldn’t put so much stock in the media and what they say. Undeniably, the Lakers have the biggest crew of haters that extends into ESPN that goes without saying. However, this year, unlike so many other recent ones, we have enough guys who are battle tested to cut through the noise so there won’t be many losing streaks. Up and down? Yes. But I honestly don’t see them losing enough to hurt the overall morale of the players in teh locker room to where they’re not performing properly. Put short, it won’t be last year by any stretch.

If anything, I think this team mentally is stronger and feeds off of haters/doubters. Clarkson has a huge chip on his shoulder for dropping to second round, Randle wants to prove he’s worth his first round spot from last year and that his injuries are over and done with, Hibbert is in a contract year and wants to prove it’s the Pacers, not himself, that was the problem for last year’s season with the pacers, etc etc.

Honestly, the only person I’m iffy on is Russell. Not that he won’t eventually become great but how soon will it be/how long will it take. Will he hit his stride late into the season and start clicking a la Clarkson last year towards the end of the season? Too early to tell one way or the other. But everyone else? I think they’re ready to go in one way or another*.

    Let’s go Lakers!

*Clearly it doesn’t have to be said that I’m not including Sacre in this comment, does it? lol
