Los Angeles Lakers Vs. Portland Trail Blazers NBA Highlights

After an 85-70 win over the Golden State Warriors in San Diego, the Los Angeles Lakers return to Staples Center to host the Portland Trail Blazers. With Kobe Bryant (leg bruise) possibly being shut down for the final two preseason games, head coach Byron Scott will have an opportunity to evaluate his players as roster cuts near. For the second consecutive game, D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Anthony Brown, Julius Randle and Roy Hibbert were named starters.

Check out the highlights below:

[divide]

D’Angelo Russel is playing with a more aggresive scoring mindset.

  • jordan clarkson please let d’angelo be the playmaker, you do not have the natural instincts…straight scorer.

  • jordan clarkson please let d’angelo be the playmaker, you do not have the natural instincts…straight scorer.

  • On most other NBA teams, neither one would be a starter. They’re doing the best then can.

  • Nice back door cut by D’Angelo Russel. He is moving without the basketball, making a sneaky basket. Nice.

Ad Larry Nance in for Johnathan Holmes, who appears to have busted his shoulder on a dive on the floor. Holmes might have seriously hurt his chance of making the team by injuring himself on that play.

  • I think that is it for him too. He tried really hard on a play, showed great effort, but hurt himself in the process, I believe he will be one of the first 2 cut. This injury just doesn’t help his chance. It sucks but that’s the way the ball bounces sometimes.

  • OMG!!! Huertas between his legs pass back to Nick Young , who bombs a 3. What a Play. Can we sign Huertas, like now.

  • only tough decision should be whether to cut j.brown and imo he has to go, we don’t need his skill set unless someone gets hurt we have more then enough scorers without playmaking ability.

  • were is j talor when you need him this is why black needs to make the team over scare.

black and bass will work great together because both play the same type of ball

  • HUERTAS is the only LOCK to make the team. I think Black and Brown have a good chance to make the team because they were both very useful and benificial to have last year therefore they are proven assets.

HUERTAS – who knew this guys was a magician. He makes incredible passes, he has a soft shot, he looks comfortable on the floor, pushes the ball well, makes cross court passes, makes other players better.

BLACK is a tank. He has a lot of upper body strength, is a great rebounder, a hussle energy guy. Protects the ball and can score inside the paint. Works well true point guards, we now have 2. He just need to be a little more fierce.

    J. BROWN is a player he has a great 3 point shot, get make the mid j, is great at attacking the basket, can make shots after contact, is an excellent free throw shooter. If you need scoring he is a guy you can turn to.

M.W.PEACE – brings veteran leadership, makes the locker room light, can teach the kids a thing or two, though defense, an enforcer.

UPSHAW – Do we roll the dice on his potential ? He brings monster shot blocking ability, good rebounder but he still has a lot of work to do.

I think HOLMES and FRAZIER will be cut.

We can only have 3 of these players unless we cut players with contracts.

  • Why does the game look slow? Like almost boring to some degree but not quite maybe it’s this line up, can’t wait for regular season. … team will have some awesome moments!

  • Man this team looks terrible.. they are struggling to beat a depleted Blazers taem without 4 of their starters from last year

its looking like a bleak season for Lakers fans.. feel sorry for yall!

  • His defense in this game is pretty weak so far, i am hoping that changes. He was letting guys go by him and shoot around him.

  • Meanwhile Jeremy Lin torched the Bulls for 18pts 8 reb and 5 ast on 6-8 shooting today and the Hornets are 6-0 but Huertas is laughing? yeah ok

  • Metta will be cut. Or he should be. Giving a guy a roster spot just because he’s a voice is BS. Metta still can’t score or make a conventional layup, not to mention his garbage 3pt shot. I’ve only supported his mentorship of Randle… outside that, we can give him a coaching job instead of a roster spot.

  • This is the last game before SCOTT pulls out the axe, he is trying to let everyone have playing time and a fair shot. Don’t worry BUZZCITY we won’t have 17 players next game.

  • Dude, STFU. You obviously don’t understand how preseason works. Especially how these last couple games work.

  • just look at his stats in summer league and now the 7 games in preseason.. looks nothing like the 2nd pick overall.. mean while Okafor is beasting in Philadelphia

  • The Lakers babyfy him too much he should be on the floor! We never get to get a good look at him and when we do, he doesn’t show up!… not ready to call him a bust just yet but he’s definitely not starter worthy yet!…

  • Love Upshaw’s potential, but dude is extremely raw. He’s a project, and people need to realize that. He’s a nice risk, but he CAN’T help on gameday. Not now at least.

  • I know exactly how it works.. youre supposed to prepare your best players for the regular season.. its not supposed to be a tryout for 17-18 guys.. good coaches should always know who your best players are.. look at the Hornets.. Coach Clifford has a set rotation of who he plays because he knows who his guy are going to be… difference between a good coach and bad coach

  • I was about to say these exact words haha
but he’s doing marvels off the bench so its cool

  • Dude is successful with the bench. Don’t kill that. He could, but Russell’s defense is WAY BETTER than Huertas. Plus Russell needs to play next to Kobe.

  • He should already have an idea of who his guys are going to be.. this just shows me he is not confident in his team and his players if hes trying this many.. Look at the Hornets.. Coach Clifford only played 10 guys tonight because he knows whos going to be in his rotation come regular season and the Hornets are 6-0.. not a coincidence

  • Huertas needs to play with Kobe i don’t care what nobody says!!!! The starters will be super enhanced can you imagine? Every starter getting nice touches

  • no he doesn’t perfect fit with young and lou will off the bench, and his defense isn’t starter quality.

  • No, no, and no. You’re just using this as another opportunity to trash talk Byron. Get over yourself. And the fact that you compare us to… LOL… the Hornets. Shows how ignorant you are.

  • Russle nees to play with kobe ..kobe his dad or something… Huertas played with two different line up and made the offense looks smooth how do u kno russle shouldn’t be back up? Cmon we seen enough to know he can play with any line up hes 32 not 22

  • LOL at Lin fans still trolling LAKERS Nation! Lin is an overrated scrub who gets bounced around the league. Face facts! 6-0 in the east against teams who will crush them in the regular season zzzzzzzzzzzz

  • The Hornets are going to be a much better team than the Lakers this season.. you mad bro?

Cant wait till the Hornets come to Staples Centre and torch Scotts team

  • I agree his defense is suspect and wudbe a good fit with too ball hogs but russ jc kobe chemistry is way off still

  • Yes, pretty much. Don’t be a jackass. What’s the point in having their lockers next to each other if they don’t build on their chemistry on-court.

  • We might as well TANK because they’re gonna sacrifice alot of wins just to develop the young core instead adjusting the rotation to get as many wins as possible in what may be kobes last season

  • Well let’s see YOU are still HERE at LAKERS NATION so obviously you’re obsessed with US. Uh no they won’t. The Hornets still suck and always will. Buzz off you lame. You don’t see us on your Lintard websites and we have moderators now. Watch me report you.

  • Russell playing like an overrated scrub right now.. looks like he should have been a second round pick

  • Yeah, because they’re in the East.. SMH.

You even a Laker fan bro? You seem to be all over the Hornet’s nuts.. GTFO non-Laker fan.

  • Maybe you haven’t heard what the game commentators said, the moment that Metta entered the game the defensive intensity of the Lakers went up a notch. That alone can might help Metta make the team

  • Im with u .. True pg but we kno that wont happen .. Any one with a basketball iq can see that man makes the offense run better then jc or russ but he will bk up

  • So what if they are in the east? The Lakers wouldnt even be a top 10 team if they were in the east! FACTS!

  • lol wow clarkson played great tonight and russell has barely played at all

  • Again, that’s nice and all. But here’s the thing.. HE’S A WASTE OF A ROSTER SPOT. He can’t do that as a development coach?

  • Im still here to see how badly you guys miss my boy LIN !! you guys sorely miss him and you will find out that even more during the regular season as your team feeds off the scum from the sewers.. BUZZ CITY BIATCHHH!!!

  • Jc plays Westbrook style pg, huertas plays team true Nash pg we have talent that would be seen with huertas

  • Russell should have stayed in college. Clarkson would be riding the pine on a good NBA team.

  • dude your clearly a troll comparing okafor who is on a team who’s season is over before it starts versus russell who has to fit with a team that believes they can make the playoffs and have enough talent to do so

  • If they want to make the playoffs, and they can with the key players we have; Byron Scott should adjust his rotation and his system a little, we have certain lineups that can Reeeaaally light it up and defend! I’d rather win and make playoffs while developing instead of forcing development and taking unnecessary L’s

  • You mean to check on the Lakers because you’re jealous we didn’t want the undrafted league ho? You know cause he’s been in more NBA locker-rooms than a Kardashian? HAHA! But you have fun thinking a 6-0 preseason record means anything because come April the Hornets will be home and the Lakers well…we’ll still be the Lakers. Huertas>Lin

  • Hey everyone! @buzzcity17:disqus is a Lin fan coming back to hunt us! Steer clear of him or you’ll catch his sickness.

  • Clarkson -6 when hes on the floor

Huertas +9 when he is and he has more assists than Clarkson.. what a true PG should do

  • Huertas leading his team to victory while Clarkson and Russel on the bench… start that man!

  • All coaches and teams have different objectives, Also our last game was cut short. We do have good contributing players that can make the team so it is not an easy choice. That is a great problem to have.

  • Dude the Lakers season is over as well too.. you really think their going to make the playoffs in a stacked West? Keep dreaming bro

  • Love how metta subconsciously makes the teams defense pick up, intensity

  • I wouldn’t even be mad if he starts to be real. Makes everyone on the floor better offensively.

  • WHAT ARE YOU REPORTING HIM FOR? Ln is good in practice and bad in games I know that , if he wants to make a bet on who will have the better record I take Lakers and al his bet is covered. But he is all talk!

  • Im glad to know you still living in the past glory of the Lakers.. but reality check bud.. the Lakers stink and they will be garabage for the foreseeable future and if you think their going to make the playoffs you are even more delusional the I thought you were.

Isn’t Huertas undrafted too? Matter of fact he is a 32 year old rookie! lol thats the best the Lakers can come up with these days? that is so sad

Lin will be an all star this year you can bank on that! and the Hornets will be in the playoffs cause of it.. BUZZ CITY BIATTCHH!

  • He has a better passer than both of those guys you mentioned. Plus Russell has the better shot of becoming an all-around PG. You and the other whiners expect him to be a legit PG immediately, but he’s learning to become one. It’ll be a year or so.

  • I’m watching Russel for the first time because of Huertas, I never followed Lakers before. But this kid look more a SG to me.

  • Would like to see him do it vs real competition first. Still haven’t shown much to impress me and am sure many Laker fans.

  • Sacre kissing his Lakers career goodbye, 1 bad play at a time. Turnover then the foul on a 3pt attempt.

  • He’s a combo guard right now. But they’re developing him into a PG. This is his development year.

  • Just when the game was in the bag, i know it’s preseason but i can’t stand taking L’s in the 5 time champ staples center

  • Its not a good problem when 12 of those players are scrubs and wouldnt see a minute on a good NBA team

  • Russell will improve, his pass with out looking needs the Lakers to be ready and anticpate

  • No prob. Many thought Magic wouldn’t be a great PG in the pros either…. look how that turned out.

  • He is already a PG dude. Just a tall PG like MCW. He needs to fix his game to the level of speed of the NBA.

  • Many knew he would be a great PG coming out of COLLEGE. It was when he was in highschool going to college that people didn’t think he would excel at the college level until Michigan State gave him his chance……

  • The Hornets definitely have a future.. a much brighter future than the Lakers..

Lakers, best team in the NBA? lol you should be a comedian bro

  • You can make an argument for a lot of players , this is the toughest cuts we have had in forever.

  • I strictly remember scouts saying it’d be better if he played SG because of his size. But the Lakers rolled the dice and chose right.

  • You know as great as that play was by Kelly, he was the guy who threw the bad in bounds in the first place.

  • Because he is a TROLL! A Lin troll at that and he is using offensive language!

  • Big game James ain’t happy… Sacre being called out! LOL. Guys, relax… it was funny.

  • They’ve been saying that for about a decade now. What future? A 30 year old Lin or a washed up Batum? I don’t even know who else is on that awful team! Stay MAD while you steady watching the 16 champion LAKERS!

  • Yea he did play SG…….and basically all positions on the court because of his size so comparing Russell to him is not smart my brother.

  • Glad I had faith… people told me that I’d be crazy to think of him as a good stretch 4… looks like I was right.

  • Uh no. Russell is one of the best passing PG in all of the draft. He’s definitely a PG that can shoot.

  • He is getting touches what am seeing. He doesn’t look confident and is pretty slow to get past defenders to break down the defense like he did in college.

  • Jabari Brown, Holmes, Sacre and Frazier will be cut soon. Too bad Holmes didn’t get enough playing time.

  • Lin is only 27 and Batum aint washed up.. have they really been saying that for a decade because last time I checked the Lakers have missed the postseason the past 4 years.. so what have they really been saying?

SPeak the truth or dont speak at all.. all you talk is nonsense and illegitimate facts

  • For some easy.. but Upshaw didn’t run away with it. He might just stick due to default circumstances (Sacre). But make no mistake, if we had a better option at backup Center, Upshaw would be cut.

  • Flagged and you just bragged about the Hornets being 6-0 you big dummy.

  • I prefer slow and patient with his reads than fast and out-of-control like most athletic young PG’s. He’s not trying to be overly-aggressive and make mistakes… dude plays with Kobe, Clarkson, Randle..

  • Everyone FLAG the Lin troll Buzzcity17 to get him off our website!

  • And Lin is an undrafted scrub. He probably played all 48 minutes to get his weak stats LOL

  • He played combo guard in college num-nuts. (Actually played SG in the rotation at Ohio State). But I believe he will develop into the PG that I know he can be.

  • Huertas is a take of fresh air .. With these new combo guards im so happy to watch a true pg damn

  • What I mean by slow is that his doesn’t have good change of speed and his handling is not good enough to break a defender down 1 on 1. Nash was slow but he had great changes of speed. You saying you would rather have that kind of PG but when he doesn’t produce like a 2nd overall pick suppose to lots of rumors and noise will start popping up.

  • Russell’s size at the PG position is rare in this league. MCW is in the same category (not great talent wise). Russell’s passing is already on par and warranting comparisons to Magic… No, I think I’m right to compare the two.

Magic was bigger, but the talent is there for Russell.

  • Lin is 30 and Russell is 19. HAHAHA. One was actually drafted and plays for a winning franchise and the other is an old washed up scrub who gets bounced around the league. Batum sucks now. His numbers were trash last year. That team is awful.

Russell looking more like a poor mans Nate Robison

  • I hope Kobe can get healthy and stay healthy. If this is his last season, I want him to be able to play and walk away from the game because he wanted to. Can’t wait to see Lou out there w/ Huertas and Swaggy. Gonna be an exciting season. #LAKERSNATION

  • FLAG FLAG FLAG buzzcity17 he is a reincarnated user who is a LIN TROLL! He is here trolling so flag him so Dan can ban him! Thank you!

  • Man you are dumber than you sound.. Russell is not playing for a winning franchise because he just got drafted and the Lakers havent made the playoffs in 4 years..

The Hornets will be a lot better than you think.. their going to shock the world this year.. you dont even know that Kemba Walker (who is much better than Russell as well) and Al Jefferson are on the team and they have a bunch of veteran unselfish players.. know your shizzz.. and stop living in the Laker bubble

  • Hopefully next game we can see a more normal rotation, it’s the last game of preseason Scott should have a clear idea by now who will play and who will get cut. Enough of the Hockey sub pattern already. Scott should treat next game as a regular game already.

  • Your comparing one of most athletic and best passers in history that didn’t have a score first mentally to a nonathletic scoring combo guard with court vision. Russell is more known for his scoring than his passing. He has a score first mentality. Second is passing.

  • Funny how you know the avatar is anime.. LOL. And virgin? LOL. Nice one. Like if that were an insult. But hey, my kid has some questions for you then… Hahaha!! Douchebag.

And you clearly didn’t watch Ohio State games, because Russell was the SG who made plays. Why are you even complaining?? I love Russell and support him from dumb people who call him a bust. But it’s clear to me he’s playing off-ball more because he’s still learning the position. SMH.

  • How do you have 3 shooting guards in the starting lineup? its not going to work… no true point guard there.. you need to have Huertas in that lineup to settle things down

  • Disagree completely. I believe there is a balance in Russell’s head. He’s not trying to score first here with us, so you’re wrong. He’s taking what the defense gives him.

  • The ball movement is so terrible. It’s not their fault..technically. Kobe is older and slower, Russell is underdeveloped and has alot to work on, and Clarkson is the only one who can break down the defense. You put that with Randle and Hibbert…offense is stagnant.

  • I just observed that when Russel is on the floor with the starters he always plays off the ball and JC is running point. When Huertas is in the game you see countless of picks for him. Not defending Russell or anything but he needs to have the ball in his hands to be effective. Turnovers are part of his game, the more he learns to be under control with his decision making. Huertas has been a pro for years that’s why you can see the confidence in him to throw risky passes. Russell needs time to develop his game and his confidence. Give him the ball and let him create like what Huertas has been given the freedom to do in the 2nd unit.

  • Oh yeah suck a hard conclusion to come to what with the internet readily at my disposal. You see not everyone is mentally stunted like you. Of course you don’t think it’s an insult because you’re a nerd who doesn’t know any better. Shouldn’t you be over at a Lin website?

I’m not complaining I was correcting your stupid comment. He is a brilliant passer who doesn’t need to be molded into some PG. Fool.

  • The Lakers are the most successful franchise in the NBA. On and off the court. Why don’t you get educated on our historical legacy, loser.

YAWN. YAWN. YAWN. Nobody is thinking about the Bobcats! Are they playing on TNT on October 28th? Oh that’s right THEY ARE NOT! Kemba is an inefficient shot jacking injury prone scrub. Al Jefferson will be Roy Hibbert play toy and Clarkson will dunk on Lin.

  • I don’t care if Russell starts or not, what i worry is that Scott is playing him off ball. Russell is a playmaker not a scorer, he played well with Lou and Young also like Huertas is also doing. The 2nd unit does more pick and roll / pick & pop plays compared to the starters. If they continue to play that style with the starters no matter who starts either Russell or Huertas will have a hard time coz it takes the ball away from their hands.

  • Sure leading the Freshman last year in scoring doesn’t make him a “scorer”. STFU with these excuses to blame to Scott.

  • And to whom do you want to give that roster spot to, Frazier, Holmes, J. Brown or Sacre? Metta makes the team, if he plays every game is another matter.

  • Funny because Big Game James just agreed with me, that Russell is trying to assimilate to the position. You know, that’d make me right and you wrong.

And why do I have to go to a Lin website? I’m not a Lin fan douchebag. And wow… you’re a comical POS who needs to find help. And fast. I love Russell… but it seems you’re IN love with him. Sorry to break it to you, but Russell doesn’t roll that way! LOL.

So back atcha luckily you have no say so because you’re too stupid delusional and blind if u can’t see how complicated it is with three ball dominators starting especially knowing how it’s gonna change when mamba gets back! They need balance =Huertas dummy… Huertas to kobe for….. ohhhh!

    lin still sucks. FLAGGED.

  • Stupid and delusional of course I don’t respect you talking like that, and to go with it you don’t know what your talking about. Do you really think D’angelo would be a better fit playing off the bench with Lou and Nick, that doesn’t make sense. Marcelo is the perfect fit to play with those two, and apparently you didn’t watch the defense russell played in the first quarter we need him in the starting lineup NO debate about it.
