Matt Barnes Congratulates Derek Fisher On Engagement To His Ex-Wife Gloria Govan

Derek Fisher and Matt Barnes had their careers overlap for a short time while on the Los Angeles Lakers, but the two wouldn’t seem very likely to find common ground in recent years given that Fisher has been dating Barnes’ ex-wife, Gloria Govan.

In fact, the triangle became headline fodder in 2015, when Barnes drove from training camp with the Memphis Grizzlies to attempt to fight Fisher at Govan’s house. It was an incident that earned Barnes a two-game suspension.

Things appeared to get worse last year, when Fisher totaled a car registered to Barnes in an incident that was later deemed a DUI. But Barnes later said the two were on good terms once again.

With news of Fisher and Govan getting engaged, Barnes was among those to post on social media to congratulate the couple. Though it’s possible his feelings may have changed as Barnes has since deleted the post, which Alysha Tsuji of For The Win captured a screenshot of:

It’s not really that surprising to see Barnes change his mind, as love is complicated, and an ex-wife getting married to a former teammate is probably never going to be an easy situation, regardless of what his initial Instagram post said.

According to TMZ, Fisher and Govan initially got engaged on April 7 in an event at their home in Los Angeles surrounded by family and friends. No date for their impending nuptials is known at this time.

Fisher is currently a broadcaster for Lakers network Spectrum SportsNet, while Barnes retired from the NBA but has been working as an activist in Sacramento in the wake of the Stephon Clark shooting.
