Mike D’Antoni Doesn’t Anticipate Kobe Returning By Thanksgiving

Since speaking last week, Kobe Bryant has not updated the media on his latest condition. While Bryant has done some light shooting lately, head coach Mike D’Antoni shared that Bryant is progressing well but there’s no timetable for his return.

Before tonight’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, D’Antoni revealed that he does not anticipate Bryant coming back before Thanksgiving according to Lakers Nation’s Serena Winters:

After revealing that his Achilles is healed and is currently working on regaining mobility in his ankle, Bryant blacked out his Twitter avatar earlier this month. To most, it signaled a return was near and Bryant later informed the media that he needs about three weeks of vigorous training.

While everyone is counting down the number of weeks, Bryant wants to return at a high-level and has no personal timetable. With so much skepticism surrounding Bryant due to the severity of the injury and his age, he wants to ensure that those opinions don’t become facts.

Without Bryant likely not returning by Thanksgiving, since he has only been able to shoot on his tip-toes at this point, the Lakers will need to stay above water and hope Bryant will return soon. The Lakers are currently 4-6 and have a nice home stand to get back above the .500 mark.
