Mitch Kupchak Announces Lakers Waive Five Players

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak announced today that the Lakers have waived five players. The players that the team released today are Zach Andrews, Chris Daniels, Gerald Green, Elijah Millsap and Malcolm Thomas.

Many of those names may not sound too familiar, but all were brought in with a chance to make the roster during the pre-season.

Andrews was a 6-8 forward that played for Bradley before making the Los Angeles D-Fenders’ roster earlier this year. In the D-League he averaged 11.1 points (.603 FG%) and 8.9 rebounds in eight games.

Green is a four-year NBA veteran who was originally selected by the Boston Celtics in the first round (18th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft. He has played for several teams during his career and is most known for winning the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2008. Green was able to get on the floor for the Lakers Wednesday night during their pre-season game with the Clippers.

Chris Daniels is a 7-0, 265 pound center out of Texas A&M-Corpus Christie. Daniels was selected with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2011 NBA Development League Draft by the Erie BayHawks.

Thomas is a 6-9 forward who attended San Diego State and helped lead the Aztecs to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance last season. During the season at SDSU he averaged 11.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.02 blocks in 30.4 minutes.

Finally, Elijah Millsap, the younger brother of Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap, was acquired by the Los Angeles D-Fenders in a trade with the Tulsa 66ers earlier this year. During his time in the D-League he averaged 23.2 points (.510 FG%, .526 3FG%), 7.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.50 steals.
