GM Mitch Kupchak along with Jeanie and Jim Buss will give Anthony their best sales pitch in an attempt to get him to sign with the Lakers. According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the team is “laser-focused” on Thursday’s meeting:

The top two free agents on the market are Anthony and LeBron James. The Lakers want to land both superstars in free agency, but few believe that is a realistic possibility. Even though signing both LeBron and Carmelo might not be feasible, convincing Anthony to come to Los Angeles might not be out of the question.

Fortunately for the Lakers, Kupchak and company will have the last pitch made to Anthony outside of Phil Jackson potentially taking another shot at keeping his star forward in New York. It will be a difficult task to sell Anthony on signing with the Lakers considering the current state of the team, but the team’s front office might have a few undisclosed plans they intend to tell Anthony about.

Regardless of plans that may or may not be in the works in Los Angeles, the Lakers are a long shot in the Carmelo sweepstakes. Despite being the underdog to land Anthony, the Buss family and arguably the best general manager in the business will give it their best shot with a lucrative deal likely on the table.
