After an unsuccessful stint overseas that ended prematurely, Lamar Odom was given one more shot in the NBA with Phil Jackson reaching out and signing the veteran forward to contract with the New York Knicks.

Unfortunately, things didn’t work out as planned for the two-time NBA champion with the Knicks waiving Odom on Friday, according to Real GM:

Odom’s problems off the court had became public knowledge last year. Odom was said to be abusing drugs and ultimately saw his marriage to reality star Khloe Kardashian fall apart as a result.

With Jackson taking over in New York, there seemed to be no better person in the NBA to help turning things around for the former Sixth Man of the Year. Although Odom was still considered a project after unsuccessful stints with the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers, Jackson was willing to take a chance that simply didn’t pan out for whatever reason.

Now that the Knicks have parted ways with Odom, it’ll be interesting to see if his NBA career is officially over or if another team like the Los Angeles Lakers would take a chance on the veteran forward.
