NBA News: New York Knicks Considering Signing Rasheed Wallace

Back in 2010, veteran forward Rasheed Wallace decided to walk away from the game after a failed attempt to win a title with the Boston Celtics. The Los Angeles Lakers were able to hold off their arch rivals by taking the Celtics the distance in the NBA Finals and coming out on top in Game 7.

With Wallace winning a championship back in 2004 as a member of the Detroit Pistons at the expense of the Lakers, the four-time All-Star didn’t leave the game without a ring. It wasn’t much of a surprise to hear that Wallace was seriously considering retirement and ultimately called it a career, but over the past two years he’s been contemplating a comeback.

According to Ric Bucher of ESPN The Magazine via Twitter, Wallace has been working out Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas and may end up signing with the New York Knicks:

Back in February, Wallace was rumored to be considering signing with the Lakers. The veteran forward was so close to making a comeback with Los Angeles that it was considered a done deal and a matter of time before the signing would become official.

Ultimately, Wallace never put the pen to the paper and remained retired. It’s fairly obvious that the 38-year-old is itching to get back on the floor for an NBA squad and the Knicks might be the one team ready to make his comeback official.

As of right now, the center and power forward positions for the Knicks consists of Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, Camby and Thomas. Wallace will likely share minutes with these four veterans if the Knicks ultimately decide to bring him in.

Tracy McGrady was rumored to be on the Knicks’ radar as well after working out with the team recently, but with Wallace in the mix McGrady may have to continue to look for work around the league.
