Needed Source Of Energy May Be On The Injury Report

The Lakers began their season with a deep bench. Then Sasha Vujacic was shipped to New Jersey. Bynum’s injuries started to return, and Barnes underwent surgery. When Matt returns it will be a welcomed sight because his presence will have an immediate impact. He and Steve Blake have significant experience as starters in this league with multiple teams. Depending on what may or may not happen before the trade deadline, we may see Odom return to the bench as well. Barring any further injuries, the bench will be back in tact and playing their same scrappy and intense brand of ball as before.

While trading away and acquiring new players is a definite way to infuse some life into a team, I feel that the Lakers simply need to get healthy. Barnes is experienced enough and has the unique form of motivation that can spread quickly on the floor. He has been that needed spark for his teams in recent years. He is quite a handful for opposing teams, as Laker fans have come to realize in recent months.

For me, he is the guy you love to hate unless he’s wearing your colors.  At this point in the season, his return will be just as energizing and valuable as any trade to come.
