Steve Nash: “I Want to Fight for These Guys”

Los Angeles Lakers v Houston RocketsThe Los Angeles Lakers came into the 2012-13 season as one of favorites to win the NBA Finals, but fast forward several months and now the team is just three losses away from starting its summer early.

The Lakers are up against the San Antonio Spurs in the first round, and after losing Game 1, it is clear that the Lakers will have a tough time in this series. Los Angeles has dealt with a myriad of injuries this season, and their biggest blow came just as the regular season ended when Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles.

Steve Nash is also battling the injury bug, but he is not allowing it to prevent him from being on the court. Nash understands that the Lakers have not played to their full potential this season, and thus he wants to do what it take to help this team overcome its challenges. Nash spoke to ESPN LA and talked about this roster and what it means to be playing for the Lakers.

“I love to play and I love this team,” Nash said. “I want to fight for these guys and be a part of this team having some happy times. We’ve had a lot of down days and we’ve stuck with it. . . . We’ve had a lot of ups and downs and a lot of tough nights, so I want to turn that around and be a part of helping these guys enjoy this.”

The Lakers will have their hands full moving forward in this series and they need an overall team effort if they want to complete the upset. Los Angeles will be back in action Wednesday night, and the best way to send a message to the entire league is to head back to Staples Center tied at one game.
