Steve Nash Talks Potential of Signing With Heat in 2012, Dwight Howard

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Sacramento KingsThese days in Laker Land, there are two main things on the mind of everyone. How Kobe Bryant’s Achilles coming along and whether or not the Lakers will re-sign star center Dwight Howard.

Howard has been pretty inconspicuous this offseason, not really communicating with any teammates.  Kobe Bryant has already spoken on his intention to speak to Howard about his free agency decision.  Now Steve Nash hopes to get some words in to the big man.

Nash appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and hopes to figure out what’s going on inside Howard’s head:

Yeah, absolutely. He’s just one of those guys that draws so much attention it always seems to come out wrong, possibly, too, you never really know. So  I’ll definitely talk to him. It appears he’s going to do the circuit, but I’d like to hear what he’s thinking.

With Kobe and Nash both hoping to get in Dwight’s head it is obvious that despite whatever tensions occurred during the season, the Lakers really want Dwight Howard back next year. Now the question is whether they can convince Dwight to return instead of going to what many consider a more favorable situation in Houston.

In this interview Nash also spoke about his chances of going to the Miami Heat instead of the Lakers this past offseason when he was a free agent:

No, you know I wasn’t. Obviously I knew it would have been a great opportunity basketball wise. I ended up making the decision so I could be close to my kids, and they’re in Phoenix so that trumped everything […] The other thing was I was getting three year offers elsewhere and Miami would have been a one-year opportunity had we explored it.

Good to know Nash was never close to joining the ‘evil empire’ that is the Miami Heat. With Nash in Miami they may have been unbeatable. Hopefully a healthy Nash in LA next year can bring what we hoped for this past year.
