On November 3, 17 years ago, Kobe Bryant made his NBA debut with the Los Angeles Lakers. He wasn’t yet the Bryant that we’ve grown accustomed to watching. On that night, he was still an unassuming 18-year-old kid at the end of the bench with a heaping load of potential.
The night before, Kobe’s draft class mate, a young Derek Fisher, made his NBA debut with 12 points and five assists in 20 minutes of action. Shaquille O’Neal also made his Lakers debut with 23 points and 14 rebounds in a 92-86 win over the Phoenix Suns — and we all know how those two would be instrumental in Bryant’s career.
It was the following night, however, that Bryant would see his first game action. He only recorded one shot attempt and a rebound in six minutes of game play, but it was the beginning of an illustrious career that has entered its final chapter. Check the box score of the game below.
