VIDEO: Conscious Art Show Features Amazing Kobe And NBA Artwork

On November 9, Vincent “V.C.” Chang and a collection of other basketball artists debuted the Conscious 2 Basketball Art Exhibition. Conscious 2 is the second of a series of art shows that will be featured around the world. The first was shown in Taiwan with Conscious 2 being shown in Santa Monica.

The gallery featured a collection of artists from around the country and the world with art work depicting some of the greatest NBA players of past and present. V.C. put the show together and talked a little about what the show is all about.

“We try to emphasize the conceptual aspects of the artwork where we try to tap into a person’s consciousness and knowledge to create an interaction.

“Ultimately, I want to create an experience. Basketball is a very artistic sport. I goes hand-in-hand with art because the way that it’s set up, it allows room for creativity”

Lakers Nation also had a chance to speak with artist J.O. Applegate about his work, and more specifically, his piece on Kobe Bryant.

“The concept behind it, for me every possession in a basketball game plays out in a different way a little bit — so it’s like a narrative to a story. I wanted to take the context of that and put it into a different setting to make you think about the way something plays out.

“So I put him in an Italian city with the defense kind of scattered around and he’s going to have to figure out how to attack them to get the basket.”
