VIDEO: Mitch Kupchak Takes A Funny Jab At Dodgers Owner Magic Johnson

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak met with the media after the NBA trade deadline expired on Thursday. Among the topics of conversation were how much interaction Kupchak’s had with Dodgers owner Magic Johnson as of late, and whether or not he could have any involvement with the Lakers’ future. Kupchak was quick to muster up a hilarious and witty remark in response to questions about the Lakers legend.

“Hopefully, Earvin is looking for a second baseman.” Kupchak joked after revealing that he stays in touch with Magic on a frequent basis. “I would hope that’s what he’s spending his time on right now.”

Johnson, the leader of the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group, has made plenty of public comments about the Lakers, with the vast majority being quite negative, and usually involving Jim Buss. Kupchak, though, is still quite friendly with Johnson and although he does agree that some of his comments may hurt the Lakers organization, he knows Magic is doing it because he is truly a “fan at heart.”

Kupchak also revealed that he still communicates with Johnson on a regular basis (spoke to him yesterday) and often runs ideas by Johnson. Sometimes, the Lakers general manager still asks Magic to to meet with a player and make a few phone calls.
