Why Lamar Odom Deserves to Make the All-Star Team

Written by: Wade LaRoche

When Lamar Odom came into the NBA in 1999, he was seen as a can’t miss prospect who would eventually be selected to multiple all star games.

Unfortunately for Odom, he has had a bit of a roller coaster career up to this season. Whether it be injuries, inconsistency, adjusting to a new team or adjusting to a new role, Odom has not been able to get the honor of being selected to the NBA all star game. Finally, in his 12th season, this should change.

Odom has been known as the Lakers’ X-factor for some time now, as analysts have often said that if Odom plays well the Lakers win. This was a testament to Odom’s skill, but also unfortunately his inconsistency.

Inconsistency has not been a theme for Odom this season though, as some could argue that he has been the only constant in what many Lakers’ fans would call an average season to this point. Odom has consistently both scored and rebounded for the Lakers while shooting a high percentage, whether he comes off the bench or starts.

Odom’s fast start to the season can probably be credited to his World Championships experience this summer, as Odom came into the season in what some would say the best shape of his career, which had been an issue in the past. Odom came into the season sharp and his great play has continued for the most part since the start of the season.
