<< 1953-54 Minneapolis Lakers | 1955-56 Minneapolis Lakers >>

With George Mikan not on the roster for the first time in Minneapolis Lakers history, the team had to adapt. In addition to this major change, the Baltimore Bullets disbanded 15 games into the season, leaving just eight remaining NBA teams.

Led by Clyde Lovelette, Slater Martin, and Vern Mikkelsen, the Lakers managed a solid 40-32 record. This would be good enough for second in the division, with three of four teams making it to the postseason. Minneapolis got past the Rochester Royals in the first round, but were no match for the Fort Wayne Pistons in the western finals.

The Syracuse Nationals would win the championship, putting an end to the first ever NBA dynasty.
